Subject: One of CP's newest locomotives, an ES44AC built by GE. This is #8838, newly delivered in December 2006. It is on the point of an empty unit grain train which will be heading east on the Taber Sub, manned by a crew out of Lethbridge, AB. The original #8838 was a GP9, built by GMD in 1959 and later rebuilt by CP as GP9u, chop-nosed and renumbered to #1697 in 1987. This photo taken December 24/06 at the east end of CPR's Lethbridge (Kipp) Marshalling Yard.

Subject: This coal train, lead by CP9779, an AC4400CW, will be heading west on the Crowsnest Sub to one of the coal mines near Sparwood, B.C. for a refill. CP9805, another AC4400CW, is the robot, bringing up the rear on this 117 car consist. These coal cars are CP's newest version. Photo taken on January 28/07 on the west end of the Lethbridge (Kipp), AB marshalling yard.

Subject: An ES44AC (CP8719) and an AC4400CW (CP9659) are crossing the Oldman River at Lethbridge, AB. At 105 meters (344 feet) above the water and 1839 meters (1.14 miles) long, this is the longest and highest steel railroad bridge of its type in the world. When the locomotives had cleared the bridge, the end of the unit grain consist had still not come on to the bridge. For a better view of the bridge, search for 'CP3084_6' and/or 'High_Level_Bridge'. July 20/08.

Subject: This is an empty coal train, heading for one of the coal mines in the Sparwood area of B.C. CP8750 is on the point while CP8755 is the robot, bringing up the rear of the consist. Both locomotives are ES44AC's. This train is just approaching the Alberta/B.C. border at mile 100 on the Crowsnest Sub. The crew from Lethbridge, AB will tie down at the Crowsnest junction to hand over to a crew from Cranbrook, B.C. This train will continue its journey west on the Cranbrook Sub to one of the coal mines north of Sparwood, B.C. on the Fording River Sub. July 25/08.

Subject: The High Level Bridge was lit up on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. This bridge is the highest and longest of its type in the world. It measures 1839 meters long (1.14 miles) and sits 105 meters (344 feet) above the Oldman river bed. Construction began in 1907 and took 12,500 tonnes of steel. A CPR official stated that this bridge is good for another 100 years. Photo taken on September 5/09 in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Subject: Three UP SD9043AC's are taking this grain train west on the Crowsnest Sub. Leading the consist is UP8285, followed by UP8283 and UP8262. A CPR crew out of Lethbridge is manning this train, who will take it to the Crowsnest Pass and hand it over to a crew from Cranbrook, B.C. January 27/10.
