This bridge is the highest and longest of its type in the world. It measures 1839 meters long (1.14 miles) and sits 105 meters (344 feet) above the Oldman river bed. Construction began in 1907 and took 12,500 tonnes of steel. A CPR official stated that this bridge is good for another 100 years. This consist would have entered Canada from northern Idaho at Eastport; from there travelling on the Kingsgate Sub to Yahk, then the Moyie Sub to Cranbrook and the Cranbrook Sub to the Crowsnest Pass. This is one of the rare occasions where there are no CPR locomotives in the consist. The silhouette of this AC4400CW is impressive. CP9829 is leading this three locomotive consist, two pulling, one pushing (see following photo), a unit coal train, heading west into the Rogers Pass. The lake is the Columbia Reach, on the southern end of Kinbasket Lake. The background mountains belong to the Dogtooth Range of the Purcell Mountains in the Rocky Mountains. It has just arrived from the Crowsnest Pass. This is an empty unit grain train, being returned to the prairies for a refill. All three locomotives are AC4400CW's.
