Subject: This is an aerial photo of Switch backs 2&3 that I took in February of 2010 on my first exploration of the B&S. Look to the lower extreme right and that meadow is just about where I took the next photo from this summer.

Subject: Having explored the B&S RR ROW I had a better idea of where Switch Backs 2&3 were located which I missed on my first ground based trip. This picture is actually the beginning [or end] of Switch Back 3 which is out of view to the right.

Subject: This is the beginning [top] of Switch back #1 at Keating Summit, PA. I think it would be easier to x/c ski in the winter than to walk it in the summer. Either way it would be tresspassing. There is a sign buried in the weeds.

Date: Fri Apr 9 23:48:53 2010
Subject: The following 15 pictures are of my x/c ski adventure exploring the switch backs of the Buffalo and Susquehanna Railway. I only had enough time to ski switch back 4. I only recently found an entry point for 2 and 3 via Google Sat/map images. Next time.

This photo was taken from where I parked the car on Pa44. You can make out the R-O-W on the snow covered mountain. This is the first stretch and curve after the horse shoe curve. I took a picture from that curve looking back. See pic 3150 below.

Subject: This is the trail head and is appropriately named. It is a steep drop down to the R-O-W. The R-O-W is actually about 50 feet or so below the road as fill was used when the road was built.

Subject: Approaching switch back 4. The R-O-W from Galeton, Pa, on the left, is rising up to to meet the R-O-W I'm on at the switch back. It amazed me to see this, especially when you take into account that steam locomotives operated on these switch backs.
