NJ Transit to close station at Great Notch.
On Monday, New Jersey Transit announced plans to close Great Notch Station in Little Falls Jan. 16, 2010 because of low ridership.

In April, the agency increased service at the station, which is located on the Montclair-Boonton commuter-rail line, as part of a trial to build ridership at the facility. NJ Transit set a goal of averaging 75 weekday riders by the end of six months and 100 within a year. However, the station’s ridership “remained anemic” by averaging less than 10 riders on a typical weekday, NJ Transit officials said in a prepared statement. Since Montclair State University Station opened in 2004, demand at Great Notch Station has steadily declined. In fiscal-year 2009, weekday boardings averaged nine at Great Notch and 597 at Montclair, which is located about one mile from the Little Falls facility.
