RE: (erielack) Guard timber, rail, and rerailers

I know when I used the Nay Aug tunnel as a shortcut to Grandmothers
house it did not have guardrails. This was in the 60's after the flood.
The one side didn't have tracks either.

Frank,

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but as I recall from walking both the Cut-Off
and
Old Main, Roseville and Manunka Chunk tunnels did not use guard rails.
Manunka Chunk still has tracks in both bores, so it would still be
possible
to confirm it if one wanted to venture in past the collapsed lining on
the
west side or the overgrowth on the east side. The pictures in the
Lowenthal
and Greenberg book show no guard rails at either Manunka Chunk or
Oxford.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the DL&W in Pennsylvania can
comment
on the Nay Aug and Factoryville tunnels.
