Re: (erielack) Binghamton information needed
You're right some of these photos do the trick. I'll have to go through
some of the other books that I do have. I don't have the LViC book, but
looking at the Diamond V24-1, which is an excellent shot of the west end,
how much of the area is Erie? I know the right side was Erie and the D&H
connection was down the left of the photo, but was that part D&H yard, Erie
yard, or shared?
More questions...Looking at it now, the yard doesn't appear to be as large
as I would have expected. For what was the Binghamton facility used if it
wasn't a classification yard? Was it pretty much a marshalling yard for
local freights serving JC, Endicott, and Owego? According to the doc from
Paul B there were a dozen or so trains in each direction per day, but only
one originated/terminated in Binghamton, and three or 4 made pickups and
setouts, the rest were through.
Perhaps I need to rethink my starting and ending points. Were there any
actual division points on the Souther Tier? Hornell? Meadville? I really
like the amount and diversity of possible customer loads in this area, but I
would like the trains to make sense and not just have them appear and
disappear.
Thanks and regards,
Bob
