The Lower Level of Newark Drawbridge served several team tracks and a large
freight house
that was built on property fronting on Broad Street, Newark. The status of
freight house fire
detectors was displayed on a large panel located in Newark Tower.
Additional public delivery
tracks were located along Orange Street in Newark by the Bordens Plant.
Access to the Lower Level at Harrison was converted to remote-control from
Newark Tower. A separate set of semaphore signals on either side of the draw
span on the Lower Level were
controlled by the bridgetender, I recall.
