(erielack) Union Cold Storage (was: Two ex-EL SW's at Hoboken in 1977 and 1980)

I believe that was the Union Cold Storage Terminal, which stood from the
late 1800's until it burned in March 2002. It was southeast of the Hoboken
Terminal, and later the Holland Tunnel entrance was built just south of it.

I discussed this last year re: a different picture featuring the building
too:

Further details on the fire and warehouse:

However, the Seaboard Cold Storage building was (and the building is still
there last I checked) near the Erie Terminal site at Pavonia. There are
pictures of that around too though I can't put my hands on one at the
moment. For anyone on the Bergen Arches tour, the warehouse was seen then
as well.

This picture puzzled me as well. We're obviously looking west (you can see
the Palisades cliffs in the background), but there is a series of yard light
towers on the right side.

I'm guessing this isn't Hoboken, but rather Jersey City, and that we're on
the south side of the old Erie terminal in this view. The "storage" building
at the left certainly resembles one of the ones you'd see at that location.

Those storage warehouses were in business into early CR years, so I assume
that's what the cars are for.
