(erielack) Seatrain



An article by Rob Piligian appeared in the "Susquehanna Reflector" Vol 4, 
#3, Jan. 1993 about Seatrain service.  It mainly discusses the movement of a 
locomotive destined for the WK&S railroad in 1963.  Bonhomie & Hattiesburg 
Southern 2-6-2 #250  was railed to Belle Chasse, LA, near New Orleans.  At 
that time Seatrain operated two ships between there and Edgewater.  The 
Seatrain New Jersey  and Seatrain Texas.  The trip took 5 days, and with 
port time, they operated on a weekly schedule.  The #250 arrived in 
Edgewater on Aug 28, 1963, and was routed NYS&W, Wharton & Northern, CNJ, 
Reading to Kempton, PA.  Total charge was $1467.24  ($1.30 per cwt). 
Southern Ry had refused to tow it on their lines.  # 250 was later reported 
on the Wolfeboro RR in NH then at Clarks Trading Post, Also in NH.
