RE: (erielack) EL C628s and numbering
EL's zeal for high-horsepower C-C diesels came too late for Alco - the
writing was on the wall already, and Alco's track records with C630s on
neighbor roads PRR and RDG didn't bode well for EL purchasing any of
Alco's six-axle offerings....

As there were no 2700s, I would think the EL would have put these in the
2700, saving the 2750 range for a different 2750 HP loco that might have
come along later.
I tend to doubt the EL would have had any 628s anyway. In their zeal
for high HP C-Cs (SD45s and U33/36Cs), the EL would likely had at least
C630s if not C636s.
