I think the real reason that no Alco's were purchased after the C-425's is
the reliability issue.
While some C-424's and C-425's were seen late in the EL life on 99's and
100's, they were mainly assigned to Brier Hill to handle yard drags, Hot
Metal runs, and other transfer duties. They were kept close to Brier Hill so
they could be handled when they failed.
It's is ironic to note that the 2407 and 2401 still handle 'main line' duties
on the former EL main line as LAL # 423 and 424 presently assigned to the
WNYP at Falconer, NY.
