Re: (erielack) EL C347 in Marion

To break up Conrail, NS and CSX effectively reversed the PC merger, with all
the other roads included as part of one or the other into two limited
liability corporations (NYC Lines LLC and PRR lines LLC). These LLC's
effectively became a business unit to handle each company's new section of
railroad, and untill such time as CSX merges their unit into the parent
company, the NYC lettering will continue. I've seen fully-repainted ex-CR
hoppers as CSX with NYC marks, for example. This is typical of past CSX
practice with the various predecessor units which were slowly merged into
one another or into the parent and thus eliminated (B&O, C&O, L&N, etc.).

This caboose is of course ex-Conrail, thus the NYC marks and what wouldn't
surprise me to be this car's Conrail number, although it is close to the PC
and later new-on-CR bay window number series (N7 class?). There is some
sort of stipulation on equipment disposal, or so I have heard rumors to,
that may also figure into keeping the NYC sublettering.

(NS is handling it a little bit differently, but since they got rights to
the CR marks there was no reason to reletter cars... locos got PRR
sublettering a-la so many subsidary roads of Southern and later NS both, and
will probably remain untill the PRR LLC is folded into NS itself).
