Re: (erielack) Fictional EL What if



Michael,

It's your route, and your "fun" (lest we forget!), but...

Might I suggest you try using a combination of ex-Nickel Plate and
ex-Wabash trackage to KC and St. Louis rather than UP/ATSF?  Of course,
both NKP and Wabash had been absorbed by Norfolk & Western by 1964, but
they could equally have gone to EL if the company had been in stronger
financial shape at that time.  Also, this combination would have been
more appropriate for EL if one assumes that Lackawanna had completed a
merger with its onetime partners before merging with the Erie. 

Once again, it saddens me to note that much of the original Wabash and
Nickel Plate mainline trackage remains in service under Norfolk
Southern, even though they were "secondary" routes compared to NYC, PRR,
and B&O... wish we could say the same for the Erie West End and the
entire DL&W.  Almost makes one wish that N&W had fully absorbed EL
rather than just holding it through Dereco.
