Subject: (erielack) Pequannock Station

The classic New York & Greenwood Lake RR station in Pequannock will be preserved. Morris County Land Conservancy (Open space advisors for the town) secured a grant for $75.000 for the 1910 station and property. According to an artticle in a local paper, the station "Is one of the few surviving late nineteeth century stations typifying such structures before the tremenous expansion of the railroads in the early twentieth century. This stick style building is considered one of the finest in design among the survivors"
The town plans to restore the station as it appeared in 1910, it will also be a stopping point along the planned Rail-Trail of the former EL (NY&GL) branchline. That will run from Riverdale (that station survives also) to Wayne NJ.
On a sad note I heard that Great Notch will no longer be a station stop for NJ Transit traiins in the near future. All passenger service will be handled at he new Montclair State station. The classic station at Great Notch suffered a fire in the early 80's and was torn down. All that remains today is a Bus Shelter and the former platform.
