MUNCIE - Gale Tschuor Co. of Yorktown apparently will be awarded a contract
to renovate the former railroad depot at 700 E. Wysor St. along the Cardinal
Greenway.

Last week, Tschuor turned in the lowest bid - $860,841 - when offers were
opened by the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Several previous bid openings resulted in bids exceeding the state's
estimate of what the project should cost. Tschuor, for example, earlier bid
$934,563 and $1.013 million. An Indianapolis firm in October bid $840,989
but failed to include an affirmative action form. Tschuor's bid last week
did not exceed the state engineer's estimate.

"Not only are we very pleased that the renovation of this historically
significant building will now proceed, we are excited to be working with
Gale Tschuor Co. again," Delaware Greenways director Steve Varner said in a
news release. "This building will serve as a significant stopping point on
the ever-expanding Delaware Greenways system."

Tschuor was the contractor on the extension of Cardinal Greenway from Muncie
to Gaston.

Varner expects construction to begin in 3 months and to be completed in
December 2003.

The depot will become the headquarters of Delaware Greenways, containing a
display/exhibit area, gift shop, rest rooms, conference room and offices.

The depot was opened in 1901 by the Cincinnati, Richmond and Muncie railroad
line, according to Varner. Built in the late Victorian Queen Anne style, it
was regarded as one of the most modern and substantial structures of its
kind ever created by a railroad company in Indiana.
