(rshsdepot) Globe, AZ
City turns down grant for depot
After a 30-minute executive session with City Attorney Bill Tifft, Globe
City Council members chose not to accept an Arizona State Parks Heritage
Grant for approximately $16,000 for phase one, the stabilization phase, of
the fire-damaged railroad depot building on South Broad Street in downtown
Globe. The city's match for the grant would have been more than $10,000.
According to City Manager Manoj Vyas, the city had the possibility of
receiving three grants from different sources for stabilization and
renovation, but the conditions of each grant were not compatible with the
others. He said in March 2003 the city will apply for funding for the entire
project if funds are available.
