So it is 9/29/1899...a short announcement at bottom of page 1: "NY =
Central announces trains will not run...on the 30th Street Branch due to =
expected crowds by the Hudson River (to watch the fleet..." This was the =
day that Admiral Dewey returned with the fleet from the Pacific and the =
ships went up the Hudson and Dewey came under the celebratory arch on =
5th Avenue..
It was important enough to announce this for commuters to see...
