RE: (erielack) ELHS Buffalo convention report...

Finally getting a chance to review Paul's Photos. I was in Virginia for work
so I missed the convention. A few errors.

THE NRHS museum in NT is in the old Erie Freight station. Actually the
building did handle some passengers briefly on the IRC Trolley line I have
been told. The Track behind in the Erie Falls branch. The tracks in front
are part of the team tracks. For the Record the NYC freight house is two
blocks NE and is still in use as part of a paper facility.

The EL2 tower controlled the crossing of the Erie branch and the NYC
Lockport branch, not Fairport. Fairport is near Rochester.
Photo 75 shows tracks at US Sugar near the Niagara frontier food Terminal.
This facility was off the Erie and the Erie and NKP both served it as it was
built when the Vans owned the lines.

Sorry this has taken so long, but here's the first part of the Buffalo
convention report, mostly in picture form.

Friday, Sept. 20 was the first day, and was a bus tour of the Buffalo region
led by EL veterans Devan Lawton and Charlie Bethge.
What a wonderful day, and I'm still impressed by the sheer amount of "stuff"
we saw!

Guide to the photos:

0038: Devan Lawton starts the narration
0049: Lower end of Bison Yard
0053, 0054, 0058: The location of what used to be the Babcock St. station
that the EL installed in a half-hearted attempt to satisfy passengers 0060,
00061,0062: The former Erie Buffalo Division headquarters building.
Abandoned for many, many years, Devan noted it's slated for demolition in
the not-too-distant future, so we all got photos of every angle of this
structure.
0075: Some of the remaining former Erie/EL industrial trackage near Bison
Yard
0077: A rolling meet (both trains were moving!) near Bison
0084: remnants of the Erie on this bridge 0088, 0091, 0094: Bison Yard as we
crossed over it. The big grassy areas used to be classification tracks in EL
days. The auto facility and intermodal facility both used to be
classification tracks as well.
0097: NS train ready to pull out of the auto facility
0099: Charlie Bethge discusses what was once at Bison
0105: One of the many remaining (and abandoned) EL-era light towers in the
yard
0118: The last remaining DL&W structure in the yard. I believe this was once
a crew office?

More to come....
