Re: (erielack) FW: E-L & B&H, Wayland

The consignee in Bath that rec'd lumber was Babcock Ladders a major shipper on the Erie. The Gunlocke Co is in Wayland as Pat mentioned. It is now owned by Hon Furniture. After Conrail was going to abandon the Wayland branch north of Bath, the Steuben County industrial development agency purchased the line & leased it to the B&H mainly for Gunlocke to be able to use rail for shipments but eventually Gunlocke shipped to trucks. Around this time Gunlocke was going thru a series of different owners after Howard Gunlocke sold the company to Sperry & Hutchison, famous for their green stamps but with no experience in furniture manufacturing.

Terry Dean

Sent from Yahoo!
