In Aurora, there is a beautifully maintained station just off State
Highway
82. The grounds and the station itself are immaculate. The only unfortunate
aspect is that there is no hint of the station's Erie heritage.

In circa 1966--1968 there was a major PGA golf tournament at the Aurora
Country Club and the EL brought one of the tavern lounge cars and parked it in
the track behind the station. It was open as an entertainment center for
invited guests.

The bridge at Garrettsville was the site of the September 15, 1966 head-on
collision between the night Hump Crew (local) and an eastbound ore train.
That incident resulted in the scrapping of RS-3 #1011 at Brier Hill Shop,
the firing of a Train Dispatcher and the demotion of the Chief Train
Dispatcher in Youngstown. The eastbound ore train was led by Alco FA2 #7381 which
I seem to recall was repaired and returned to service.
