Re: (erielack) Erie Lackawanna-track abandonment question



The abandonment of double track through the Water Gap and then along the
cut-off was around 1958.  I remember reading about this in TRAINS.  They
wrote that DL&W brought in a manager from the D&RGW who saw a lot of excess
double track when evaluating how much traffic was running on it.  I would
imagine the single tracking of the cut-off and the Boonton Line had a lot
to do with the property tax.  Somehow it was reduced with the amount of
tracks in use.
