Thanks, Bruce...........FYI there was a Vulcan Iron Works shop in West Pittston on Exeter Ave. My dad worked there in 1941 - 42. The building - of red brick - was about a city block longEast to West and had suffered from a mine cavein so that halfway down the shopbay, there was a sag of about 1 foot so the overhead crane could only work in 1/2 the shop. I don't know if this was during my dads' time there. ABOUT END OF 1942, WE MOVED TO Philadelphia where dad worked for Wetinghouse during the war. What a trip that was.....on the good old Lehigh Valley in a train filled with sailors & soldiers. They gave my mom a seat in the coach, but dad took me to the last car where we soon observed the bald smokebox ofa big 2-8-2 dim its headlight as it smuggled up to the coupler.........then the fun began as the streamlined 4-6-2 on the front and the big freight engine a few feet away began working their hearts out blasting their way up to Mountaintop. Mom gave dad an
earfull about taking a 5 year old just a few feet away from 'that thing' but I thought it was swell. It is such things that set us upon our pathways of life.
Regards to all,
Walter Smith

Google "Vulcan Iron Works" and then check http://www.abebooks.com/ for Vulcan Iron
Works. There is a book 1913 Vulcan Locomotives and others for sale.
