Brad,
I collected the data from the consists for Ohio trains (PE1, KM1, 62, BH78,
CM2, HF98, MC1, MC3, MD97) and put them into Excel. I searched this for DTI
cars and found four. I know the formatting is all messed up, but you should
be able to decipher it. I am a list "digest" subscriber, so I apologize if
this has already been covered, and I also apologize if you are looking at
this on a smart phone!
My understanding is that there was a canned food plant (Campbells Soup?) on
the DTI in Southern Ohio, and they regularly shipped to the
Bedford/N.Randall food warehouses. These cars (correct me SMT) could have
been switched out in Leavittsburg or Brier Hill before going to Cleveland.
The gons from International Harvester might be from the IH plant north of
Springfield OH (Glen Echo), where they made truck chassis/cab assemblies
from which customized trucks could be made. In the 80's these were shipped
elephant-style on flat cars. The EL interchanged with the DTI just south of
there at Maitland. ( I think most of the Farm Equipment at the time was made
at the Ft Wayne IH plant, which I think closed around 1983.)

For my non-existent, Youngstown-themed layout, I have made sure to acquire
some DTI boxcars for this food service to Cleveland. Can't say when they
will ever turn a wheel.
