Re: (erielack) Water Gap Maps

The shots may have been taken from the Fire Tower that's plainly marked on
the 1936 map along with the dirt road that went into it. The county line
between Monroe, and Northampton pretty much follows that road. As I stated
earlier, a short walk through the woods any where along that road where the
letters PTON CO are would bring you to the edge of the mountain with views
looking south east all along it. The pastures in the photo's directly
down the mountain are clearly shown in white versus the wooded area's in
green.

Note: That map still shows the L&NE connection with the Lackawanna
dropping down into Portland. This was probably gone by this time in favor of doing
the interchange up at the Hill Yard, or the connection about a mile or so
due west of town.

Here are 1893 and 1936 USGS maps of the Delaware Water Gap. The 1893 map is
obviously pre-cutoff.

For a true 1938 aerial photo of the area, I suggest downloading the Penn

Perhaps our guru can enlarge the immediate area for greater clarity.
