Re: (erielack) REA Traffic

In 1967, Nos. 3 and 4 only showed times at Rutherford Jct. and Ridgewood Jct. No. 3 carried a note in the schedule "Via B.C. Line." No. 4 didn't have that note, so it could have legitimately gone either way. Even with that, I don't know of anything that would have prevented the dispatcher from routing No. 3 over the Main Line at BJ if there was interference on the B.C.R.R.

In 1963, No. 7 ran via the B.C.R.R. but No. 8 ran via the Main Line with a station stop at Paterson. In 1958, Nos. 7, 8 and 9 (The Saturday night train) all ran on the B.C.R.R.

In TT No. 3 of Oct. 31, 1965, No. 3 on Saturday night/Sunday morning originated at Binghamton instead of Hoboken. No. 3 had a connection with No. 17, the Saturday/Sunday newspaper train, at Binghamton on Sunday morning, so it might be supposed that any traffic from Hoboken on Saturday night went via 17. No. 3 also ran on the River Line via Belfast, but No. 4 ran on the Main Line via Wellsville. Nos. 3 and 4 carried a notation that they could leave any station in advance of scheduled departure time if all traffic had been handled, except for No. 4 between CB Jct and Cass St (Hornell). Except for that notation on No. 4, both trains operated in territory where they were authorized to move by signal indication and not by time table schedule authority.

Hello Friends of Phoebe and Smiley:

Did these trains operate on the Main Line through Paterson?

Thanks,
Len
