Re: (erielack) The Erie's access into Maybrook
Walter -
Yes, Erie WB through freight trains originating at Maybrook would
typically run west via the Graham Line to Port Jervis. The NYNH&H
line between Maybrook and Campbell Hall Junction ("JM") was
double track.

Bill,
Thank you for providing me with more details as to the operations that took
place at Maybrook. It is hard for me to contextualize the operations we are
discussing given that I was born in 1982 and all of the aforementioned railroads
were no longer in existence.
Are you referring to westbound trains that originated at Maybrook in your post?
As you wrote, the Erie trains would use the Graham Line.
Sincerely,
Walter

Walter and List,
That's correct, all Erie (and L&NE) trains used a portion of
the Montgomery Branch to access Maybrook Yard. This
required crossing the NYO&W at Campbell Hall ("CH")
until that carrier ceased operations and their tracks were
removed. From there, virtually all westbound Erie through
trains used the Graham Line from the O&W Bridge to
Port Jervis and points beyond. The NYC had Trackage
Rights over another portion of the Montgomery Branch
to interchange traffic with the NYNH&H.

Bill,
Thank you for your informative response.
I read in the cited article at http://www.nyow.org/ques_ans_.html that there
were Erie trains which originated in Maybrook. These trains must have used the
Montgomery Branch then to access either the Graham Line or the Mainline. I am
confused.
Walter

Subject: (erielack) The Erie's access into Maybrook
Hello,
I read on the Ontario & Western Railway Historical Society website an
informative article at http://www.nyow.org/ques_ans_.html about how the various
railroads lines reached Maybrook Terminal. There is a very helpful map that
accompanies the article. After reading the article and looking at the map, I am
assuming that the Erie installed diamonds near "MQ" Tower, after the completion
of the building of the Graham Line, for trains on the Graham to reach Maybrook
Terminal. Moreover, I am wondering what facilities did the Erie have at Maybrook
during the period that the Erie utilized the terminal.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Walter Conklin
