Very interesting document.
Regarding the lack of ERIE cars. I have looked up half a dozen cars that I photographed in ERIE paint after 4-76. They all appear on the list as EL cars. Were they supposed to be repainted and didn't get repainted? One 50' box car I photographed in service 1987.
In sorting through my pictures I found the attached ERIE 21248 covered hopper photo dated 2-78. Note that it now has round hatches and appears to be black lettering on grey. I was aware that the ERIE had replaced the hatches on some cars, but did not realoize that the ERIE had gone to the black lettering on grey paint on any two bay hoppers. Has anyone else seen ERIE Black on Grey two bay hoppers?

A little while back, there was mention on the Conrail lists of a Conrail "master roster" for both locos and freight cars inherited from the predecessor roads. This roster, close to 800 pages long, was submitted to the ICC shortly after 4-1-76, and contained individual re-numberings for every inherited car and locomotive. Right now, it is accessible from the STB site in PDF format.

Interestingly, while there are some cars that went from DLW reporting marks straight to CR, there are no entries for cars that went from Erie reporting marks straight to CR.

I came across this redecoration filed on Mar 31 '76 by trustees Patton & Tyler that listed all the lessors that EL had equipment leased through, identifying payment addresses, that Conrail would assume. Apparently they were leasing all their corporate automobiles from one Buffalo-area dealership.

I also came across a couple of recordations filed by Conrail in 1981 involving some equipment lessors that agreed to relax their restrictions that prohibited sub-leasing. Apparently, when EL acquired these items, there were restrictions that prohibited sub-leasing them to other railroads.
