Re:RE: (erielack) computer scare

My question:

How did this person get the addresses of those he contacted? He is not a member of the list, so how secure is our list? It looks like he tried several names at the beginning of the membership list, but how did he get there?

Another: Chris indicates that there is considerable traffic off-list among list members. Is this true? If so -- why?

After all, one of my prime reasons to join the list is to experience everything everyone has to say, but running a close second is my wish to let the list's computer (much younger, smarter, and more powerful than mine) take the heat and do the work of filtering out this kind of stuff.

Hi all,

. . . I don't know whether to mark them as safe or not, but they seem to be genuine members of this site (I won't name the most recent one so as not to offend). Pictures are regulalty blocked as a precaution as well. If there has been a thread I will consider the person as safe, but I suppose there's always the chance of your mailing list being infiltrated. This happened to me recently when everybody on my list got emails purported to be from me suggesting they might need Viagra! I had to change all passwords etc to hopefully stop this action (so far so good), but still don't know how it happened.

Keep up the good work.

Chris
