Well, "made in China" probably had something to do with it. Overall, the 
model RR stuff that comes out of there is well made, but errors creep in 
when production and design are on opposite sides of the globe. That's what 
happened to the Atlas cars. Are any model cars/rolling stock made stateside 
anymore? Bowser/Stewart?

Nope, the products are "Made in China" according to the package. It looks 
like most RTR product nowadays have one fault or another, and they're all... 
made in China.
