Well, if anyone believed that the proposed "Roundhouse America, at The
Penn-Ohio Railroad Museum, Greenville, Pennsylvania" idea had any merit, NOW
is the time to speak up.
The Canadian National Railway has begun wholesale stripping and demolition
of buildings on the historic site of the Bessemer Shops complex at 86 Ohl
Street in Hempfield Township. There is heavy equipment on the property,
though the century-old Roundhouse remains intact, as of this writing (there
are a lot of Early Twentieth Century buildings to come down).
If you look at the two photos (linked at the bottom of the attached) that
show what Toronto has just accomplished with their CN roundhouse (Before
and After, as viewed from up in the CN Tower), you will see how they turned
a blighted industrial eyesore from the past into a powerful economic
development engine for tourism in the future
We could have that outcome, here, but the door is closing...

When, in this economy, we can't scrape together the several hundred
dollars necessary to formally launch the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad
Historical Society, what hope is there of securing the several million dollars that
would be required to achieve this proposed, Greenville-favorable outcome
(below) with the grand, dormant and rare gem, right in our midst? But, if
time and money were not issues, this (below) would surely have been a real,
world-class Dream Come True for next year's centennial of our community's
most unsung diamond-in-the-rough...
