(erielack) DL&W Parlor Car Service

A little more information to add to the interesting discussion regarding the DL&W parlor cars. The Lackawanna's "Arranged Services" booklet, revised 9/26/1954, indicates that a parlor car operated westbound at the rear of train number 5 (The Twilight)from Hoboken to Buffalo, daily except Saturday. It was open for service from Hoboken to Corning, then deadheaded to Buffalo. Eastbound, the parlor car was operated in train number 6 (The Phoebe Snow) as Car 61 from Buffalo to Hoboken, daily except Saturday. The equipment list included indicates that both the Virginia Dare and Julia Ward Howe were both still in-service as of 9/1954, painted in the gray and red streamline colors. I highly recommend that anyone interested in the Lackawanna's passenger or freight operations obtain a copy of the Arranged Services booklet available from the ELHS book store.
