Another thing that happened on RRs back then was Charter Excursions that would use cars not usually assigned to the Regular Service...

Without having my timetable handy, the Lake Cities (Worlds Fair) had its
sleeper extended to Chicago for part of the time when the World's Fair was
going on in New York.
