signals.jpg (image/jpeg, 1200x811 298885 bytes, BF: 3.26 ppb)

I found a group of photos I shot of Conrail's "dirt trains" that ran over
the former EL Boonton Line in 1994, and it brought up some questions I had
about the revised signals the EL installed on the NY&GL portion of the
Boonton Line:

* How many of the signals were "simplified" by NJT? Anyone know which ones
specifically? The EL appeared to have 3-bulb-heads over offset 2-bulb-heads,
but in NJT years they appeared to have the 2-bulb heads removed.

* The attached photo shows one of Conrail's dirt trains rolling east towards
Croxton, crossing the long causeway over the Jersey Meadowlands. Note the
signals here: The westbound signal appears to be a regular 3-bulb head (was
this originally 3-bulb/2-bulb?). The eastbound signal, facing us, really
intrigues me: It is a 2-bulb/2-bulb combo, offset, displaying a
yellow-over-red aspect. So... what would the other bulb on each head be? I
assume red on the top head, but what on the bottom? Green? Just seems like
an odd signal for the EL. This is probably an approach signal for DB
Interlocking, the drawbridge is at the bottom right of Snake Hill in the
distance. Croxton Yard starts behind that hill and stretches to the left
(north) in this view.

By the way, I would much rather have preferred to catch a CS-9 rolling the
other way at this location, but that "wrong place, wrong time" thing creeps
up. :)

Thanks in advance,

	- Paul
