Re: (erielack) Re: CNJ Interchange

Aha, now the photo makes sense. In what time frame did BP-1/PB-2 operate? It
must have been Royal Blue-NYC via WS-B&A. This is a good example of creative
route-making during the regulated era. Most CNJ New England traffic, of
course, was interchanged with the New Haven, via both the Alphabet Route and
carfloat to Bay Ridge.

Sure. This photo is taken looking towards National
Junction when the New Jersey Junction RR (aka River
Line) was double track plus sidings. EL facilities at
Monmouth Street Coach Yard are out of sight to the
left of the pole line along the Weehawken Branch (not
pictured). The LV coal train in the picture is on a
descending grade after having crossed overhead
EL tracks that lead to the Bergen Tunnel and
underneath several structures that include the EL
Bergen Archways.

In deference to the subject line, I should mention that
CNJ also operated two fast freight trains (PB-1, BP-2)
via the NJ Junction RR, providing fast freight service with
other railroads between Philadelphia and Boston.
