RE: (erielack) Guard timber, rail, and rerailers



Wow,
This Rockaway River bridge pic is great. I believe that is Wharton NJ, with
the CNJ Dover and Rockaway branch in the back ground. Those tall piles to
the left side would be the slag from the Wharton Furnace, and a bit out of
the picture would be the infamous Irondale Tunnel. This tunnel was made to
drain water from the Hurd Iron Mine but inadvertently drained all the water
wells in the area.

Anyone have any idea what was mounted on the concrete pillars to the left of
the track?
