Re: (erielack) Akron Questions



This is the location of the tragic wreck involving 2/NY-100 on Thanksgiving Day, 1973. Apparently vandals had lined the mainline switch for the siding. Do you recall if it was the brick plant siding or was there another siding in town? This was the wreck that resulted in SDP45's 3657 and 3667 being rebuilt with the long hood to Dash-2 specs.

    That local from Leavittsburg to Kent also worked the Harbison-Walker brick plant at  Windham, Ohio. I
  use to see it daily from the Windham High school. The tracks ran behind the school, I tried to get as many classes as I could with a view of the tracks. The power was always a baldwin S12 or 650 series Lima switcher.

No locals from Kent.
 
Kent was served by the Kent Local that operated from Leavittsburg M-F  
mornings.  That crew worked the W&LE interchange as well as Kent  industries and 

pulled the NYC at Braceville.
