(erielack) TOFC

Even longer than that, David. LIRR started circus-loading in the 1880's. Many of the larger terminals were mechanized in the 1960's. The first TOFC overhead crane was built by Paceco for PRR's Kearny facility in 1961. The Raygo-Wagner Piggypacker sideloader, initially a modified log-loading machine, was developed in the mid-60's and the first was installed at Milwaukee's Bensenville yard in Chicago in 1966. EL followed NYC's lead and went with sideloaders, installing a P-70 Piggypacker at Croxton in 1969 and at 51st St in 1970. They were soon joined by two P-90's at each terminal. All other EL ramps remained circus-load facilities.

Hey guys , how long did it take the RR to come up with a method of how to load and haul those trailers? The circus business did it like 50 years before they even thought about it. D.J. Heckman 3294
