Perhaps they should count the wheels at the wreck site?

Police search for railcar wheel after derailment

Endicott, NY (AP) - Police in the Binghamton area are searching for a wheel from a railroad freight car after an early morning derailment.

Authorities say four cars of the eastbound Norfolk Southern train left the tracks in Endicott, about ten miles west of Binghamton. No injuries were reported.

Two grade crossings in the village were damaged. One crossing may be closed for a few days until repairs can be completed.

A railroad spokesman said the cars were part of a coal train and no hazardous materials were involved. He said freight traffic is being maintained in both directions by using a single undamaged track.

State police say troopers had been told to be alert for a train wheel that may have fallen off one of the coal cars in the town of Owego, several miles west of where the derailment occurred.
