(erielack) Operations of CNJ etc..Naughtright Happenings

I wonder what those boys were smoking? It was the 70's, after all 8^)

My friend and several other young 20-ish friends were hanging out near
Naughright to look for the "Hookerman ghost" - apparently, a popular thing
for locals to do back in those days. They then unexpectedly saw a headlight
in the distance (the time was around 10-11 PM, so it was unusual to see one
of the CNJ-EL trains). As the train ambled down the track at 10 MPH, a
lantern light popped up several carlengths in front of the units, swinging
side to side. As the train approached, the lantern also moved down towards
the group until it was directly alongside. As the train got closer, the
engineer dimmed his headlights, and then turned them on to maximum
brightness. In the light of the headlight, the group saw a translucent
apparition of a railroad man in overalls swinging the lantern. Within 2
seconds, the lead unit touched the apparition and it "dissipated into a
cloud of smoke". The fireman swung open his window and yelled out to the
group, "Did you see THAT?!?"
