Re: (erielack) FW: [Susquehanna] Southern Tier signals?

Tom & Steve,

Another alternative, and this could be the one NYS&W has chosen, is a signal product called Electracode. This system uses codes and voltages thru the rail rather than transmission line (pole line).

The "pole line" is the line of poles next to the tracks, which carry the
wires for such things as power for the signals and switches, grade crossing
protection, etc. Many roads have eliminated the pole lines in favor of
buried fiber optic cable. Besides having the effect of opening up more
photographic angles, it also virtually eliminates the disruptions caused by
environmental issues, such as fallen trees, ice, derailments, etc.

Interesting there will be a switch at Lanesboro. There was a crossover(CP
LANESBORO, also including the connection to the D&H Penn Div while it
existed) there which was removed, and apparently now be put back in. Hey,
it's only money!! SANFORD comes from the location in the Town of Sanford,
where Deposit is located.
