RE: (erielack) Boonton Line freight trains-analysis

Paul,

There wasn't much north of Mt. View and NYS&W interchange was handled at Passic Jct by this time.

The Horn and Seaboard jobs were separate you are correct. You just jogged my memory about that.

Drews was busy but not enough for a fulls days work for each job. We mainly had the two jobs on to keep the customer happy.

There were two separate tracks for eastbound pick ups. The Stub, which was old track 4 and Nordas. Nordas was a private siding, but we used it for overflow of eastbound cars set for a pick up. Some eastbound cars were in Norda's and some in the Stub. Norda's held the over flow of eastbound cars. I think the stub held about 18 cars. The rest of the overflow then was put on Nordas.

Water cars for Drew for awhile was daily, then it went as needed.

Ah, OK, I always wondered about this since they were overlapping service areas. Thanks!

Was there a lot of business left north of Mt. View? (Wayne?) Was there anymore interchange with the NYS&W at Pompton Jct, or had it all gone to Croxton or Passaic Jct by that time?

It was called the "Horn Train" because it went southeast from DB, over the Passaic, then went north, "around the horn" so to speak, to Paterson. I think it used to go to Paterson and terminate there. Didn't the Seaboard job used to be its own drill?

>The 1st Boonton Drill went on duty in Dover about 1100 hrs. went to Boonton and back to Dover by 1800 hours usually.

With a convenient stop at the Main St. bridge to pass the evening rush. Coincidentally, Milik's Tavern was right at the top of the stairs. Hmm! The proprietor, Milik, was a buddy of my dad's - I remember going in their sometimes to play his "bowling shuffleboard" table. If only he were alive today, I'd ask him if any EL crewmembers frequented there... ;) [from what I understand, parking there wasn't just a 'coincidence']

>The 2nd Boonton Drill went on duty at 0200 hours in Dover and went to Boonton and was uasually back to Dover by between 0930 and 1100 hours.

Wow, was Drew a busy place! I assume the majority of the time was spent swapping tank cars at Drew, yes?

Is it true that the loaded water loads would be parked on the "stub" on the Norda side of the main at West Boonton? And this is where SC-8/PN-98 would grab them?

Did Drew need the empty water cars on a daily basis? It seems that about 40% of the CS-9 photos I have show the water cars up front, while the rest don't have the cars.
