I commuted on the Pascack Valley Line (NJ & NY RR) in 1970-1972. On the first day of the "new" trainsets, my train was late out of Anderson St., Hackensack. It was pulled by an E-L GP-7 with a dead U34CH on the west end. There was no power in the coaches; the electrically-operated doors stayed open the whole trip. There also were no seats because the train was now picking up passengers awaiting the later train. I put a magazine down on the middle step of the coach doorway and sat with my feet on the bottom step. It was an interesting view as we crossed the Hackensack River!
