Re: (erielack) Dispositions, revisited

Paul and list:

I have a Charles Houser image, dated 3-1965, of some FM's switching Portland
yard. The slide mount says E-L 1930-1931-1934, Portland, PA. Unfortunately,
the photo was taken from a very oblique angle, so it's not really possible
to confirm the number on the middle unit as being 1931.

Also, in the March, 2001, Railpace Magazine article on the B & P, on page 30
is another image, credited to the collection of Bob Bahrs, that is clearly
the same day, as the crewmember riding the stirrups of the freight car is
dressed the same, it is quoted as being March 18, 1965, and the numbers are
quoted as being the same, and the power is in the same order. Problem? Same
oblique angle...

All that said, the unit DOES wear the early E-L black and yellow paint -
yellow side sill, yellow 'bib' with wings, and yellow (roman)
Erie-Lackawanna and yellow EL diamond on the flanks...

Considering that Mr. Houser was undoubtedly quite methodical, it may be safe
to assume this is number 1931, in EL B/Y dress...

CAVEAT EMPTOR, as always, however!

Does anyone know if DL&W 931 (H16-44), which became EL 1931, ever received
EL B/Y paint? Or was it retired with DL&W lettering on the hood with EL
numbers?
