Sweeping generalizations will get you in trouble :) There were a few units
out there with Farr grills. First, there was Erie 712ABCD This ABBA set of
F-7's was produced in December of 1951, a month after the 11/51 switch to
Farr grills. There are shots in Erie Power of 7124, 7121, and 7122 in EL paint
(pp 419-420) that pretty clearly show the Farr grills. Also, remember that Erie
713C was not produced until Feb. of 1952, as the other units in the set were
originally intended to be Passenger F-7's. When the E-8's came about, the order
was changed, and another B-unit was needed. Between the manufacturing of
the A units and the B unit, the grill spec was changed. Thus you have 1 set out
there with horizontal slits on all but the second B-unit. There's a shot of
that one in Mulhearn/Taibi's "General Motors' F-Units (p 54). That's five by
my count.

Happy Hunting,

Matt
