It's another month, and time for a another analysis of this month's EL
calendar photo.... :)

A rather contrasty view of EL RS3 1041 (ex-DL&W 903) switching across the
diamond with the N&W/Wabash at Huntington, IN. The 1041 is in pretty fresh
paint, and the shot very clearly shows the end railing/drop step detail. A
cut of cars follows the engine, including TWO Dunmore cabooses (why?). The
first caboose is notable for having Roman typeface numbers on the side.
Freight car fans should note the C&EI high cube boxcar at the end of the
string!

The most glaring facet of this photo is the VERY BRIGHT BALLAST! Was this
light gray ballast a West End standard? The diamond's rails are white from
the ballast dust (apparently very new) and mud. At the left is what I assume
to be a train order signal? (with a "WR" nameplate on it) The Huntington
station is just visible at the left in the distance.

Any other comments on this image?

Yes Paul,
    Just one, note the crews use of the Huntington Daily News as a sun
visor!  ;)
