About 1965 the EL took up the second track between Leavittsburg and North
Randall. They put an APB signal system in place and four spring switches,
from East to West----RB, HM, KS and XR. They are NEITHER interlockings nor
towers.
They are quite a bit LIKE an automatic interlocking, but really are not. If
you had a train order to proceed and a signal, you could proceed. These were
called Headblocks. RB and KS were Headblocks for WB trains, XR and HM were
Headblocks for Eastbound trains. Going the OTHER way, they were automatic
signals.
RB was the beginning of the Single track Westbound MP 48.3
HM was the end of the Single track Westbound MP 34.2
HM to KS was Double track for about 1.5 miles
KS was the beginning of the Single track Westbound MP 32.7
XR was the end of the Single track Westbound MP 14.9
