Don't lean too hard on the author for the title of his book if you can't spell . . . ToNNelle . . .  two "n's".  Tonnelle Avenue is a blighted, truck-ridden precursor to the NJTurnpike, before which it was the only way south for motorists.  It is, as I said before, US 1 and US 9 -- major highway routes even now.  However, it is the only way for a railfan to access Croxton Yard [list content].

BTW, Tonnelle Avenue becomes Grand Avenue; Broad AVENUE is a conscious right bear at the junction in Palisades Park.  1 & 9 get quite confusing here as they head up US46 [old NJ6] toward the Washington Bridge [list content: 0 ].
