Re: (erielack) Boonton Line Ridership

Most parking lots along NJT don't belong to NJT. The EL sold them to
parking lot operators if the municipalities wouldn't take them. The lot
at Mountain View either belongs to Wayne Township or an operator, probably
Park America. Either way, the fees won't go to subsidize trains.

NJT put out a Parking Guide for the M&E some years ago (Shirley DeLibero
was still in charge) which lists what is available and who to contact for
permits. Most lots on the M&E are operated by the town. These are run by
Park America of Philadelphia: Denville, Highland Ave (Orange), Morris
Plains, Mountain Station (South Orange).

These have some or all free parking: Basking Ridge (some), Bernardsville
(some), Brick Church, Dover (I don't know of free spaces in the commuter
lots but there is free street parking a few blocks from the station), East
Orange, Gladstone, Hackettstown, Lake Hopatcong, Lyons (some), Maplewood
(some), Mt Olive, Netcong, Orange (some). Some indicates that the guide
shows some free parking available.

When I was last at Mountain View three years ago, the lot was full and I
was only able to park because someone left as I arrived. I cannot imagine
how it could be 'busier' than full.
