Re: (erielack) EL C628s and numbering



Could it be that the EL had learned from the Pennsy and NYC's experiences, 
and decided that the large, late ALCOs were almost completely unreliable, 
without the implementation of nearly constant maintenance? Plus, as ALCO was 
sliding towards oblivion, if one is going to buy a fleet of high horsepower 
power, why not get stronger units from a manufacturer that will be there to 
honor the warranty?

IIRC, It seems that the only place that the C628 and C630 ever ran fairly 
well was on the N&W's coal drags and the CNW iron ore moves. Very heavy and 
VERY slow...
