Schuyler's right! There were a bunch of Russian Decapods operated by U.S.
Railroads. But, How many have survived the torch? I know of one that would
make a great Erie (NYS&W) replica today, I photographed this one in Dallas
Texas a couple of years ago...
American locomotive Company 2-10-0 C/N 58903 Built March 1918 as imperial
Russian railways #E1199, resold as USRA #1089, sold (Two years later) to
SLSF (Frisco) November 1920 as their locomotive #1625. November 1951 it was
sold by Frisco to Eagle-Picher Co. in Cardin Okla. #1625. in 1964 it was
sent to the Texas State Fairgrounds where it resides today displayed as SLSF
#1625.
They are a real strange looking locomotive, especially in person! This
engine has 25X28" cylinders and 52" drivers, with a boiler pressure rated at
180 lbs. Tractive effort rated at 51,500. It's weighs 210,000 lbs.... want
to wrap one up for Christmas? Is this close to the Erie (NYS&W) specs? Sadly
we would have to remove that neat badger number board to Erie-ize it, but
the low mounted headlight looks sharp (This must have been the undecorated
American model).
